WOUNDED WARRIORS: the inner war
This series has been percolating in my head and gut for more than three years, as I read with increasing outrage and sorrow the newspaper accounts of our wounded veterans coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Finally home and presumed safe, they are often met with neglect, indifference and bureaucratic stalling. I started collecting the news stories, and then just the headlines: suicide, homelessness, post-traumatic stress, loss of hearing, traumatic brain injuries, eye injuries, depression - a litany of suffering. On top of all that, veterans must continuously fight the VA system to attain their rightful benefits, paid for in blood and permanent disability. This series is about the inner struggle our wounded warriors are facing. How can you help?
